THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Maintenance Worker, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the hospital running smoothly and safely for everyone who walks through our doors.

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and Operations, the maintenance worker will be responsible for performing a variety of repairs and maintenance of equipment, machinery and facilities. All duties will be carried out in accordance with all provincial, municipal codes and departments and hospital policies.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter and highly motivated individual who work’s well independently and in a team environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILTIES:

  • Assist with installing, maintaining, and repairing the various electrical/mechanical/plumbing systems throughout the hospital.
  • Have a safety-first mindset.
  • Identify and report areas of improvement.
  • Self-identify and action building maintenance work.
  • Track and repair issues with parking lot access equipment.
  • During renovations; setup hoarding, chutes, removing windows, demolition of walls and ceilings, drywall installation and repair, Painting and trim work, and removal of rubble, etc.
  • Ensures execution and complete all preventative and demand maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Complete and update work requests through CMMS.
  • Occasional grounds work to ensure a safe work environment (e.g., sanding/salting and clearing walkways during winter months).
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • Completion of Grade 12 High school diploma or higher education.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a maintenance role.
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare facilities department.
  • Demonstrated skills in carpentry preferred.
  • Relevant industry-related training or certifications would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with CMMS work request systems an asset.
  • Welding skills would be considered an asset.
  • Trade or vocational training certificates with courses in blueprint readings, mathematics and physics would be considered an asset.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the job.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints as well as Provincial and Municipal codes.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Work independently on assigned projects.
  • Professional demeanor, able to easily relate to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Eye and hand coordination and manual dexterity to make rapid and accurate adjustments or repairs to equipment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on highly sensitive matters.
  • Must possess the ability to remain calm and work rapidly under emergency conditions and to affect repairs.
  • Must be capable of using and be aware of the dangers involved with using hand and power tools as well as welding and torch equipment.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly rate of pay $30.48 - $31.12, 
  • vacation accrual starting at two (2) weeks per year

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Full Time. Shifts include days, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.
